Interactive whiteboards impact student learning

Richardson Primary is a child-centered school promoting the philosophy of individual difference. It offers a caring environment in which each child's contribution is valued. Multi-aged grouping and team teaching are used to encourage and develop children's self-esteem and confidence. Educational programs are carefully structured and graded to reinforce success, rather than failure. An integrated extension program is offered for gifted students. Deputy Principal Peter Kent is very active in researching the impact of interactive whiteboards at his school.

“Teaching and learning at Richardson Primary have been enhanced beyond all expectation by the use of SMART Board interactive whiteboards. Every class has an interactive whiteboard, and the use of multimedia, multi-modal, multi-literacy teaching and learning is now standard.

Teachers and students routinely capture digital information from a number of sources (cameras, scanners, Internet, CD-ROMs and interactive software). The information can then be combined, edited and manipulated in real time to support the teaching and learning process with a SMART Board interactive whiteboard. Teachers at Richardson have coined the term "e-teaching" to describe their new pedagogy.

After only two years at Richardson, the impact of SMART Board interactive whiteboards on student learning has far outstripped the impact personal computers have had during the last 15 years.”
